Pet Passports

From 1st January 2012 the requirements for a pet passport were simplified and the full regulations can be found at the Government website

Under the new regulations your pet will need to have a health check, which includes checking that the microchip is working and a rabies vaccination. We can then issue the passport which has a waiting period of 21 days before travelling abroad or returning to the UK.

When we issue the passport we will discuss with you the requirement to treat for tapeworms 1 to 5 days before re-entering the UK and also the need for “belt and braces” tick and sandfly protection whilst travelling in the EU.

The reason for the need for highly efficient tick control is that the tick population in many continental countries carry diseases such as Ehrlichiosis and Babesiosis that we do not have in the UK . These countries also have a much higher incidence of infection with Lymes disease than here.
